Auto, Taxi Fares Hiked

Boarding the public transport services can make you shell out more from your pockets as the UT Administration has hiked the fares of AC and non-AC taxis, as well as of auto rickshaws. The hike is between 13 to 25 percent. Last time, the fares were hiked in 2011.
The fare of ordinary auto rickshaws has been increased from Rs 12 for the first kilometer (km) to Rs 14. While for the subsequent kilometers, it has been hiked from Rs 6 to Rs 7 per km. AC taxis' fare has been increased from Rs 20 to Rs 23 per km, which is a 15 percent hike. Night charges will be 25 percent of the fare and it will be applicable from 11 pm to 5 am. Waiting charges will now be Rs 100 per hour.

For the non-AC taxis, the existing fares were Rs 15 for the first kilometer and Rs 11 for the subsequent kilometers. This has been increased to Rs 17 for the first kilometer and Rs 13 for the subsequent kilometers.

The fare of radio autos has been increased from Rs 13 for the first kilometer to Rs 15. This implies a hike of 15.4 percent. For the subsequent kilometers, the fare will increase from Rs 8 to Rs 10 per km, with the hike being 25 percent. For radio autos and ordinary autos, the night charges will be 25 percent of the fare.
