Negligence of Officials Takes a Toll on City’s Three Key Centres
June 20, 2013

It has been reported that the key centres in the city that were supposed to have been of public use are in a state of neglect because of official apathy. It has come to light that the horticulture centre that was built and ready at the Rose Garden in 1991 is in a sorry state.

The horticulture centre was set up to provide information on flowers that could be grown but is currently used as an office by the staff of municipal corporation and as a store house. For improving the condition of the centre several proposals were mooted but none has been approved so far.

Another centre that has been under construction since 2010 and is yet not complete is the Nature Interpretation Centre. It is coming up at the regulator end of the Sukhna Lake and is aimed to facilitate bird watchers especially during winters when migratory birds make the city their home.

The centre is expected to have 3D panels to highlight the flora and fauna at the lake. Though the outer structure of the centre is ready, the panels are yet to be installed. An official said though the construction is complete, the panels are yet to be installed by the Centre for Excellence of Environment.

For a city that takes pride in being the most planned and revels in the legacy of Le Corbusier, the present state of the Le Corbusier Centre won't be pleasant news. The Le Corbusier Centre was set up in Sector 19 in the building that was once Corbusier's office. It was inaugurated in 2009.

But after the death of its nodal officer V N Singh, the administration has not cared to find a permanent person to head the museum. Though interviews were held several times, no person has been selected so far.
