Centre Approves 4 Chandigarh Projects
September 6, 2013

The Central government on September 4, 2013 gave clearance to four key projects, a 250-bedded facility in PGI, construction of multi-level parking in Sector 17, 8 floor houses in Maloya village and Chandigarh Housing Board (CHB) houses in sectors 52, 54 and 56.

The nod came following a meeting between the officials of the UT forest department and the ministry of environment and forests which Environment Minister Jayanthi Natarajan chaired. The UT officials presented arguments in favour of the four projects hanging fire for the past many months.

Among all these projects, the multi-level parking would come up in Sector 17, an attempt to decongest the city's prominent commercial area. The MC has completed all formalities, including the permission to axe over 100 trees at the site, to kick start the work.
