After keeping the patient under observation for 20 days, the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Research (PGIMER) discharged the recipient of its first heart transplant surgery.
The transplant was conducted on August 4 had made PGIMER the first institute in the north of Delhi to have conducted such a complicated surgery. The senior doctors confirmed the health of the patient saying, "The patient for now is hale and hearty and has been discharged. The surgery has been successful so far. However, the hospital will go by the standard protocol which is to be followed in such cases, to keep a check on the health of the patient."
However, So far no complications have arisen after the surgery. The doctors are thrilled with the success of the transplant given that it is the first of the kind in the region. It has been reported that the patient is the resident of Ambala resident was diagnosed with left ventricular failure and was referred to PGIMER. It was late Kashmira Singh whose heart was harvested to the patient giving him a new life. The Hoshiarpur resident Kashmira Singh who was declared brain-dead following an accident has expressed his wish to donate organs. Fulfilling his last wish, his attendants decided to donate his heart and other organs.
