70 Kg Sweets Destroyed By Health Officials

The Food Safety Cell of UT Health department conducted raids at three sweet shops in the city and destroyed 70 kg of spurious products on October 15, 2013. Besides, the officers collected four samples of sweets including khoya, dhodha, kalakand and barfi from these shops.

Dr Rajiv Khaneja, from the Food Safety Cell said, "Our team raided two shops — Chandigarh Sweets and Mahadev Sweets — in Daria and one shop named Highway Sweets in Sector 32. About 70 kgs of sweet products were destroyed at these shops as they were not suitable for human consumption. The sweets were stored in unhygienic conditions and were kept in open."

The four samples of sweets taken from these shops have been sent for analysis to the food safety lab, the results of which will be out in 14 days. This is the second raid conducted by the Food Safety Cell during this festive season. On Monday, the department officials had raided four shops and destroyed 75 kg of spurious sweets.
